Pattern review: Violet Field Threads; valentina coat.

 

I think the most rewarding garment to make is a wintercoat. Winter coats are worn every day and keep your loved ones warm and cosy. Special winter holidays that are celebrated outside will include these coats as well (and therefore will be part of your memories and pictures)

I made this Valentina coat in red in the beginning of this year and immediately fell in love with it. I had never made a lined coat before but the instructions were very clear that even a beginner can make it. This year I improved my skills a lot since this time it took me two days to complete is. One day for the outer layer and one day for the lining. 

 

The pattern

• The Valentina is a stunning dress coat that features a dramatic high-low hem in two lengths, short and long. Valentina features a cozy and fashionable funnel collar and optional waist sash.
  
  Valentina is fully lined, making it beautiful inside and out. It can be made out of warm wool, velvets or a lighter weight fabric for different climates.

It is great to start your first sewing project or make a more difficult garment for the first time. I had never made a fully lined coat and the instructions just take you by both hands. The fabric

Wool, polyester and recycled wool combination. It has a great shine to it and lights up in the sun, by budgetstoffen.nl 

 

Pattern instructions

Digital pattern includes many picture guided instructions. Instructions are very good, but pictures show a white coat with white lining, so it is not always clear what the right and wrong sides are. Read well. Make sure to print on a good printer in color or view on a computer.

 

Fit

My girl is outgrowing size US3. I found this coat to have the same ease as their dresses. I wanted to give the coat some extra ease so it could be worn over sweaters. Therefore I made a 4 length and a 5 width.

Conclusion 

Second of many more Valentina coats to come.
