Sew along: Marion 06/1971 shirt dress

The idea

What to do with halve a meter of fabric. How about some vintage patterns. This openwork jersey will be a shirt dress

The fabric
  • 0,5 meter open work mustard jersey
  • ca 0,25 white cotton jersey

The pattern
Shirt dress in two versions.

Additional info:
  • 4yo (EU) (one size in booklet)

  • Not rated, no instructions

Cutting the fabric.
Because of the collar there was not enough fabric for the sleeves. I decided to add a white cotton jersey for sleeves and a lining, hoping it would give a little bit more structure to the very delicate fabric.

The instructions. There are two options for the button placket. Either it will stop a little above the skirt or it will run into the skirt. Different fabric lay-outs for both options.

Sew dart in shoulder, sew shoulders (in fabric and lining). Insert sleeves.

Insert sleeves.

Add collar.

Gosh button placket at 23 PM not a good idea.

Sew side seams.

Add skirt and buttons.

Hmmm, great play dress. I don't like the color combination and the heavy stitching on the very delicate fabric. I do like the pattern though and I will make it again. This pattern was definitely made for wovens.
