Sew along: Violet Field Threads: Ruthie dress
The idea
The leftover flower fabric is a straight piece, so this would be perfect for a gathered skirt or dress. I made this pattern before and the bodice/straps use minimal fabric making the skirt the focus point. I will use some elastic in the bodice because I think that would be a bit more comfortable. I love that you can cross the straps in the back as well.
The pattern
Ruthie is a gorgeous baby doll style top or dress. The slim band bodice features shoulder ties that secure in the back and allow for an adjustable fit. Ruthie has a button back bodice fit.

Cutting the fabric.
The bodice band and the straps are very small pieces, so perfect for scraps. The skirt is a rectangular piece.
Making four straps, two shorter for the back and two longer for the front. |
I made the bodice band 6 inches longer. The back 10 inches will hold an elastic band. The original pattern asks for a placket, but I thought an elastic band is more practical. |
The band is attached to the skirt with the straps. |
The straps are tied (or crossed) the elastic is practical in the back. |
