Sew along: Homemade mini couture: candycane
The idea
What
to do with halve a meter of fabric. The printed jersey is so gorgeous, I want to get the most out of it. I will make it into a gathered skirt. The top will be this candy cane top in a raspberry jersey.
The fabric
- 0,5 meter printed jersey from familyfabrics.nl
- ca 0,25 meter raspberry cotton jersey from budgetstoffen.nl
The pattern
Dress with ties on the shoulder, gathered skirt and scalloped hem.
Additional info:
- 3-10yo (EU). I make a 4yo.
- Recommended fabrics: none. Since there is no zipper I will suggest knits.
- Not rated, picture guided instructions

Cutting the fabric.
The straps were cut from a 2,5 inch strip in the length of the fabric. About another 3 inches were used to create the scalloped hem. The total width of the fabric is used for the gathered skirt.
Cut a front and a back from fabric and from the lining (here same fabric)
Use interfacing on about 3 inches of the hem of the skirt. Draw the scallop upside down like this. |
Fold the hem right side on right side. Fold another 3/8 inch seam allowance. Iron well. |
Sew on scallop and cut down seam allowance. Cut into the peaks very close to thread of the scallop |
Turn, press well and sew the (straight) seam allowance. |
Sew eight ties to the shoulders. |
Sew the front to the back in the fabric and the lining. (four seams) |
Sew neck line and ties of fabric and lining together. |
Attach skirt to bodice (hand sewn the lining because I didn't have the same color thread). |
