Pattern review: Burdastyle 05/2018 118 polyester dress

Pattern issues

So, there are definitely a lot of issues with this dress. The sleeves will not work as drawn and instructed. There is no tunnel for the elastic under the arms only on top of the arms. If you do want the sleeves, please look for a way to complete the tunnel.

Also, the side seam is 'cut away' to make room for the sleeves, but that must mean the back part of the halter will be loose.

I solved both problems by omitting the sleeves (not anything like running away from your problems). I restored the side seam to under the arms.

Silhouette

There is a belt shown in the magazine pictures and also in the line drawings, but there are no pattern pieces to make it, nor is it mentioned in the instructions. I do think the silhouette of the dress benefits from a belt, as the gathered voile does not add a lot of shape to the dress. But now it is easier to switch between belts and change the look of the dress which each belt.

Conclusion

I love the dress. It is a proper party dress, made for summer garden parties. It is an eye catcher for sure. I think next time I will chose a chiffon as this fabric is a bit heavy and thick in the neck.
