Sew along: Burda 10-2018: coat 128 - finished 20-09

Cutting the pattern
The coat is made from 19 different part. New record. It is a twill fabric (so with a diagonal weave) and therefore orientation of the pieces is very important.

Inserting the side pieces in the fronts.

Topstitching the side pieces.

The pocket flaps.

Cutting the pocket opening in the front.

Pocketflap is facing down (left)

Adding pocket lining.

Pocket fabric on the top side of the pocket opening.

Sewing pockets together, turning pocket in and turning flap up.

Sewing the facings, one part for the neck, two mirrored parts for the lapels. Sew all around the front opening. Topstitch the front opening, the lapels and the collar.

Shell is nearly finished except for the sleeves. The fabric is a bit stiff so it needs a bit of a press after it is complete to get the lapels to look crisp.

Sleeves from two parts, first the seam that will run over the top of the arm and topstitch the seam towards the shoulder. Second seam under the arm, insert sleeves.

The backpart of the lining has a seam from the top to the slit on the back.

Sew the markings on the paper to create a fold in the back lining for extra movement.

Side panels are sewn similar to the shell fabric.

Sleeves are similar to outer shell and inserted. Sew facings to lining. Finish sleeves and hem.

Detail pocket.

 Detail buttons.

Detail lapels.
