Sew along: Burda 7/2018: jumpsuit 101 - finished 14-7

Cutting out the pattern
There are three pieces. The front pants you will need to cut twice, back pants to be cut twice and the top, to be cut four times. One front, one back, one front lining, one back lining

I aligned the stripes on the fabric before cutting and again checking again during sewing. I chose vertical stripes for the pants and I placed the parts for the top diagonally.

I tried and succeeded in cutting the edges of the pants outside the stripes. To line up stripes in a very slight angle like in curved pattern pieces is very difficult. If the stripes are not perfectly aligned it will show very quickly.

In the sides of the top the lines are aligned. This fabric has a black and a white stripe. The white matches up to the black. In a distance you can't really see the black stripe so it looks like the white stripes are off. Something I would do differently in a next project (perhaps turn the fabric upside down so the white and black stripes are the other way around.

Sew the side seams of the top, main and fabric. Then align the lining and the top and sew along the neck / shoulder opening and the ties (one long sew).

Turn and press. So the bottom is still open of the top.

Sew the center seams of the pants, the one on your bellybutton and spine.

Front view of the pants. A perfectionist might calculate where to start the first stripe so the middle part doesn't have a 'huge gap' between the stripes.

Sew the outside pant seam up to the notch on the pattern piece. Sew the inner pant seam all the way down.

Sew the top to the bottom.

In the top, create a tunnel. I used a ruler as a guidance.

Open up one side of the tunnel and insert a elastic band.

Make ties from scraps.

Finish the outside of the pants.

Create a tunnel and insert ties.

The shoulder ties are to be tied, but I laid the front over the back and sew them together for about half an inch. I can still tie the straps if I want, if not, it stays closed without tying.
