Burdastyle 9/1985: picking a pattern for generation challenge

I have browsed through Burda september 1985. Now I'm planning to make one pattern from this issue. It has to be representing the 80's, but would also need to be worn today as I am not planning on making a costume for Halloween or such.

So, after I saw 'The Great Brittish Sewing Bee's 80's week" the other week, I have found a new kind of appreciation for the origin of the shoulder pads. Short story, in the 80's a lot of women took into the workforce and to be viewed as peers by there male counterparts, the business suit (with the huge shoulder pads) came into fashion. It brought with it empowerment and the goal to smash the glass ceiling. If interested, it is highly recommended.
Please take a look at episode 7 of season 6 as it included an informative bit around the shoulder pads.

But for now, making a pattern from this issue, it is just very difficult to look beyond the shoulder pads. Also, if I would leave out the shoulder pads, does it still represent the 80's a bit?

My favorites

My favorites from the browse through were these:

Blouse 128 has a shawl collar. It has gathers near the shoulders.

Coat 116 is a lovely wide coat with raglan sleeves and insert pockets.

Shirtdress 102 has a pleated skirt and patch pockets on the front.

Still, these patterns seem to be my favorites since they do not look to much like the 80's or could be adjusted as such.

It is difficult to make something that looks like the 80's but doesn't look to much like the 80's.

The styles
It has to be aerobics wear that comes to mind when people think of the 80's. Bright tights and leotards.

High-rise jeans. I would love for that to come back though. Look at Tina go.

But the most defining garment without a doubt, must be the business power suit.

The colors or prints
Yes... just, yes. To color that is. It seams solid colors are favored over prints.

As for business suits. Colors are still bold, and bright for business suits as we know now, but not as neon as the daily ware might have been.

Prints are limited to small plaids.

Or a bit bigger plaids.

The winning pattern
Has to be..

The winning fabric
I was thinking about green.
But Fuchsia or blue are also still good contenders.

What do you think
Do you think this is the most 80's pattern in the magazine? Would you have chosen a different one. What is your favorite color? I love to hear from you.
