Sewing bingo 2021 - starting with new goals.

So patsypoomakes created a lovely sewing Bingo in 2020, where it wasn't as much about making nine specific patterns, but more suggestions to inspire you. She made categories like a first or a print and she made it easier to fit these challenges into your level of sewing, amount of time and skill set.

Originally she set 9 goals. I made some more and these are my goals for 2021.

A first
Guess we all want to keep learning. I think I want to learn some more sewing techniques like working with some different presser feet (for gathering and bias tape). Also want to make front fly pants.

Fabric from stash
Yes, bust through that stash. Perhaps I should make a before and after picture. I really feel some anciety sometimes having so much fabric. I really like buying fabric, but it does turn give me pressure to make something from it.

Sew for others
I do sew for my family. If I find the time in 2021 I want to make cloths for charity. There is a charity called stichtingbabyspullen (foundation baby stuff). Their site says this:
All over the Netherlands, we organise collections of new and gently used baby items to create baby boxes. These baby boxes are then distributed via various authorities for free to expectant parents who are struggling financially. We do this because we passionately believe that every single child, at the very least, deserves a decent start in life!

Everything gets sorted and organised into 2 baby box sizes (each one available in girl and boy versions):

  • Size 50 – 68 (newborn - 6M)
  • Size 74 – 92 (9M - 2T)

Each box contains clothes, baby care products, toys and bedding.

When my girl was born I wanted to give her the world and I am lucky and blessed enough to provide her everything I wanted. I could buy the stuff I wanted, which doesn't mean expensive clothes. But I could buy that one nice dress although she didn't really need another dress. I could also make her all the outfits I had time for. This is really precious to me as I think a homemade garment really shows the love from the maker to the wearer. To make some unique and special garments for their baby I hope these parents will feel loved and special as well.

Self drawn pattern
I have created a specific sloper for my vintage dress this year. I want to expand on that in this year. My favorite self drawn patterns from 2020 contain circle skirts, bolero's and copies of RTW skirts

A repeat
I have planned multiple copies of more than one already used pattern, but what I really want to perfect is a dress shirt for my DH.

More involved
Not really planned yet, but something more involved must be on the list. Perhaps some techniques I haven't tried yet or some more complicated vintage patterns.

Using scraps
I have a lot of small scraps left in my stash. I plan to make some sommer dresses for my girl with it.

Copy a ready to wear
I really like to look at dresses in (online) shops. Most of them are either redicilously expensive, of questionable quality or both. So copying RTW dresses really gives me a kick.

Goal not met.
One goal is to have at least one goal not met. I love to challenge myself to come up with creative ideas, but sometimes you can overwhelm yourself. Give yourself grace. Sewing is fun, love the journey, love the finish line. Don't think to much about the next goal.

Do you also want to make your own bingo? Pick your nine in this blog, click on the pictures for a larger image and put them in a 3x3 grid.
