Sew along: Marion 11/1967 blouse and skirt - updated 20-12

The idea

What to do with halve a meter of fabric. How about some vintage patterns. I will use the mouselinne, the jersey and the cuff fabric from the santabox

The fabric
  • 0,5 meter white and gold dotted mouseline
  • 0,5 meter burgundy jersey
  • (part of) 0,5 meter white cuff fabric
  • small part of burgundy cuff fabric (waist band; from stash)

The pattern
A longsleeved blouse with turtle neck and cuffs. Skirt with pleat on the front and straps.

Additional info:
  • 4yo (EU) (one size in booklet)
  • Recommended fabrics: cottons
  • Not rated, no instructions
  • Vintage marion november 1967
Cutting the fabric.
The mousseline really schrunk a lot in the laundry, but probably will get a bit looser when wearing. I cut the front on the fold, the back has an opening and the sleeves in two parts, because the remainder of the fabric was not wide enough.
The front and the back of the skirt is cut on the fold. I was left with a fairly large scrap so I made pockets. I cut the straps also from this jersey. The waistband is cut from cufffabric from stash.

Press front pleat and  baste.

Selfdrawn teardrop pockets. Sew one sideseam

Sew waistband to skirt.

Backside of the seam (and in white the  basting stitch of the pleat)

Fold waistband inside and topstitch in place.

Sew the waistband to the skirt and the straps

Straps with a fancy stretch stitch.

Tack straps to top of waistband

I made buttonholes in the waistband and sew the buttons to the straps. If the straps are to long I can adjust the buttons.

Hem the skirt

Iron everything, pockets.

Front pleat.

And the back of the skirt.

sleeves in two pieces because of fabric restrictions

french seams; mousseline frays alot.

Add the collar.

Zipper in the back.

finished.

It is very festive with the gold dots and the dark red skirt.

love this detail.
