Free pattern: zero-waste bolero
Zero waste means making a garment from a piece of fabric without waste or scraps. It is a great sustainable option and makes the most use out of a piece of fabric.
If you have a special fabric you love and want to get the most out of or find it difficult to cut up, this might be a perfect pattern for you.
Pattern Sizing:
One size. Take the width of the fabric (in my case 60"). Length of fabric is half of the width (30")
Instructions.
I hope the pictures make it a bit easier:
Make mitered corners (corners only) on fabric.
Sew two short sides to the top long side (this will be the shoulder seam). Leave a part at the ends open for arm-openings (mine were 8").
Finish by sewing all edges (like the finishing on mitered corners.
Best and not so best?
It is a quick sew, done in two hours. The sleeves look really nice and have a different looking slit on the arms. It is very comfortable.
Dislike: needs to be done in thin, drapery fabric or the bolero will pull to much in the neck or arms.
Fabric Used:
Voile from: budgetstoffen.nl in the color vintage pink.
I would definitely sew it again. It is a nice vest/bolero to throw on for the chillier summer days.
Will make in different colors.
What do you think?
Would you make it yourself?
